It involves the removal of excess gum tissue and sometimes a little amount of the supporting bone if the gums are very prominent.
A small amount of gum showing when someone smiles is perfectly normal but when someone shows significant amounts or the levels are not symmetrical this can be a great treatment to improve the appearance. Immediately post surgery things can be uncomfortable and swollen but provided post treatment instructions are followed and cleaning is good the gums heal very nicely.
